A Christmas Card and a Coloring Page

When it come to re-working a drawing, I do it the old-fashioned way: ZIG pens, tracing paper, and a fair amount of White-Out.

Then I make masks to layer over the drawing.  This allows me stamp and ink the background later on.

I took a snowflake stamp (Stampin’ Up!)  and stamped over the masks in several places so it would look like snowflakes are falling in the background.

I’ve been stamping for years but I still think masking is the coolest thing.

With the masks still on, I sponged ‘tumbled glass’ Distress Ink around the page.

Finished coloring with Copics.  Love these markers!

I should’ve had these made a month ago for my Etsy shop for Cockayne Syndrome, but I didn’t get started early enough. (sigh) I’ll have to start super early next year on Christmas cards!

Here is my card to you. It’s very different from last year’s card, but last year’s card makes me cry.  Knox was still a newborn and we still thought everything was going to be alright.

This year I needed to stay light-hearted and fun.  Something with a butterfly in it, too.

Isn’t the week before Christmas the best?!

We’re taking off from our school schedule this week to enjoy the few days left…baking sugar cookies, wrapping gifts, watching Christmas movies, and doing fun crafts (I’m still making hot-air balloon ornaments!).

One of my favorite movies to watch around this time is “The Bells of St. Mary’s” with Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman. It’s an oldie but so so good.

I made a coloring page from this drawing for my daughter. If you have little ones who like to color, feel free to print out this coloring page.  Christmas is almost here!

  6. It’s beautiful! I have heard so much about the Copic Markers, I think next time I am in town at the Crafts store I will get a few to try them out. They look as if the colors just pop off the pages! What a beautiful drawing, and thank you so much for the Color Page – which will now be printed and go inside the “Arts & Acrylics” package for my 11 year old. She said she wants a “bunch of everything Artists use” – so I am adding to the package here and there.

Scarlett, I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas – special hugs to Knox this year from the Mitchells too – He is always on my mind, and when he pops into my thoughts, I say a prayer. Hugs for all the kids, cannot leave anyone out! So without further adieu, MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! xo Sherri

  7. I just stopped by because I was thinking about you and Knox today, and praying for you.

Such a beautiful card! Last year’s is lovely, too, thanks for the link. Your projects make me happy, even though I would never have the energy to do them myself. But I am still doing my little “art therapy” drawings — maybe I’ll post some soon.
