Alice in Wonderland Project (#4)-“The White Rabbit”

White Rabbit 05

Another clearance aisle find became my inspiration for an Alice In Wonderland Project #4.  When I saw this beat-up  bunny (still leftover from Spring garden decor?) I knew he would be perfect spiffed up as the perpetually late White Rabbit.

I forgot to take a picture of the rabbit in “as is” condition.  I was so excited about fixing him up that I immediately painted him all over with Metallic Pearl paint when I got him home, making him look as good as new in the picture you see above.  The garland of flowers around his neck was painted in Metallic Aquamarine. It’s my favorite color right now.   Unfortunately, by the time he was finished you could no longer see it.

Whenever I picture the White Rabbit I think of him with a monocle, don’t you? I made one from a circular piece of plastic, which was one of a bag full I purchased for 50 cents when Picture It went out of business years ago.  I had no idea what they were for then, and I have no idea now, but I knew one of them would make a perfect “eye-glass” for this bunny. I painted a large jump ring black and glued it on to look like a metal frame for the lens.  Then I glued on a piece of ball chain I found in my Box ‘O Stuff.  Formerly, the chain had held a brand label on to a pair of jeans.

I attached it to the rabbit with Diamond Glaze, and immediately, he began to look more distinguished.

Next,  I set out to make a large, extravagant collar for him.  It had to be frilly and fanciful, befitting for a rabbit who frequents the court of the Queen of Hearts.  I still had the elastic band from the surgeon’s cap I used in my first Alice piece.  I cut out pieces of playing cards and punched holes in them to string onto the elastic.  Miniature playing cards were also punched and strung on, along with bits of black grosgrain ribbons, pink satin strips, and blue iridescent fabric strips tied on between the cards.

I also made a waistcoat pocket for him and tied on a broken watch face I had with one of the pink satin strips.  The watch can fit inside the pocket or hang alongside it.

You can see the finished results of this in the photos below.

This was so much fun!  One more Alice project should be forthcoming, though with the duties of home education and the necessaries of home-making pressing upon me simultaneously, I have no idea when that will be.

  1. I love it! It looks so proper with its monicle. =) Btw, what did you use for the black back drop? I’m trying to find things to use for backgrounds on my photos.

    • Thanks so much Alex! For the backdrop I used the black velveteen tablecloth I made for the Christmas Art exhibit last year at church–feel free to borrow it anytime!

  2. Ha ha! That is, “monocle”. Wow, my spelling really ran adrift there! =)
