Baby Turtle and the IKEA Lamp

DSCF4498

Another custom baby turtle painting finished for a special little boy in Wales, UK.

This colorful canvas if for a little boy who reminds me so much of my Knox, that my heart jumps with joy every time I see his photo on Facebook.  He could be Knox’s twin!  He’s so precious and happens to have a favorite lamp from IKEA that he loves to knock over again and again!

I hope you like your painting, Danny!  With all my love ~Knox’s Mom

Little Turtle in a Castle

20140617_211448

Last summer, I visited a very special friend of mine in Wales.  He has Cockayne Syndrome, like my little Knox did, and he lives in a lovely castle by the sea with his family. I love him very much and painted this turtle painting for him to celebrate the special bond our families will always share.  Notice the Welsh and Texas flags flying together from the tip of his toy castle!

This is the 4th turtle painting I’ve done for CS children around the world. You can see the one I painted for angels in California, Germany, and France.

Turtles remind me of my little boy~I paint these with his memory in my heart and send them out with my love.

The painting was created on an 8″ x 8″ wrapped canvas.

Painting this tiny red dragon for the Welsh flag was tricky. I had a photo on my phone to guide me, but then I realized I had to paint it backwards since I put the flag poles on the right hand side!  DSCF3667

Little Turtle By the Sea

DSCF0084

Another baby turtle for a special little girl in Germany. Her mother gave me some of her favorites to work from: the colors pink and purple, and the sea-side with sunshine and seashells.

Just like the baby turtle with cheetah print that I painted for Miss B in California, this turtle was custom designed.  It makes me so happy to paint these little turtles.  I feel Knox close to me and I get so much joy from being able to give something to the amazing children we’ve met from all over the world.

The base is a 6″ x 6″ wrapped canvas.  The design was painted in acrylic with details added using a ZIG pen ( .o3), and then the piece was coated 3 times with gloss varnish.

Little Turtle With Pink Flower Shell

Here’s the cute turtle I painted for sweet Miss B., a little girl with Cockayne Syndrome here in the USA.  Her mom told me she likes pink and cheetah print, so I designed a little turtle just for her.

I always think of Knox when I see baby turtles.  This is an example of where art truly is medicine. It was a joy to paint something for someone else, with happy memories in my heart.

I started off with a crisp white 6″ x 6″ wrapped canvas.  I buy them at Michael’s, using my weekly email coupon.  I loosely sketched the design onto the cavas with a pencil…

Then I began to paint the design using my favorite Golden acrylic paints. I buy these at Michael’s, too.  Yep, with the coupons.

Even the palette looks pretty to me when I use these bright colors!

Then I added details with fine tip pens. I’m trying out this set from Faber-Castell. I usually use ZIG pens, but I wore my set out after extended use, and I had this other set on hand.  I especially like the brush pen for lettering.

Adding in more color with paint…

Painting tiny cheetah print…

FInishing touches with the brush pen…

The cutest little turtle for one of the cutest little girls ever…

Love you Princess B., hugs and kisses from Texas!
