Photos–“Boy Detective”

Even though I have no plans to take another photography class any time soon, I still try and stage some kind of shoot to practice with different lighting and stuff as often as I can.

These photos make us laugh out loud.  I’m sure it’s one of those “it’s only funny if it’s YOUR kid” things, but nevertheless, we crack up looking at these!  I tried to clone away some of the reflections on the glass,  but it didn’t work very well, so I left most of them as they were.  The black background was achieved with just a black velveteen tablecloth draped over the sofa he was sitting on.  After I finished taking these I realized that even now, I understand very little about lighting.  I could have lessened the reflections by closing all the drapes, but then my natural lighting would’ve been gone.  I  could’ve increased the ISO setting but every time I do that, even a little, the picture turns grainy.  The funny part is that I wound up editing most of them with a gritty look anyway!  I don’t have any flash equipment and I’ve never liked the results when I use my camera’s flash indoors.  Oh well, I learn a little bit each time.  Enjoy looking at my ongoing adventures in self-taught photography!
