We just finished Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” for our last read-aloud this summer. I had never read the original before and I enjoyed it immensely. My daughter’s are already anticipating Tim Burton’s upcoming movie re-make of this classic tale in ’10. We’ve already ooh-ed and aah-ed over the crazy character costumes we’ve seen on the internet and hypothesized about the zany way Burton will bring the story to life. Whether you’re a Burton fan or not, it’s sure to be colorful and creative. My favorite Burton film is probably “James and the Giant Peach”, but that could change. The most pressing question is, will my younger readers find Alan Rickman more suited to play The Caterpillar than Colonel Brandon? I’ll just have to wait and see…
I’ve decided to play around with the “Alice” theme a little bit before we dig in our heels for the new school year. This first piece is a small wall plaque that I bought on the clearance aisle of Hobby Lobby for $1.87. I sanded it, painted it, and altered it up into a small, colorful tribute to Ms. Curiosity herself.
In honor of Tim Burton’s wild and wacky style, I used an unusual art supply for this piece. The light blue gauze for the flower at the bottom left and on both sides of the handle is from a surgeon’s cap! It’s really a pretty material bunched up and it’s very soft. I may have to find a medical supplier online and get some more! More to come….
What a darling project!!!
I love it:))))
So kind of you to stop by today,
Smiles,
K
