Blue Flower

More photography practice.  Have I mentioned that I would like to make money at this someday?  You will all have to bear with me as I learn this art form from scratch.  I learned so much in my photography class, but I also learned how much I don’t know–a LOT.

These are some shots I took recently inside the house using window light in the afternoon. The windows are on the south side of the house so the light is soft and indirect. Obviously, I edited these to black and white but the exposure was unchanged for the most part.

The more I try and take pictures in natural light, the more I appreciate it.  Natural lighting does limit the times I can practice but it’s forcing me to be aware of the different levels of light coming in at different times of the day.  Right now, I definitely prefer natural light to studio lighting of any kind for portraits.

The silk millinery flower that this young lady is donning for her portraits belonged to my great-grandmother and is actually a very bright green. The green didn’t work well so, thanks to the ease of digital editing, I turned it to blue.

Yes, it’s just a bed sheet for a backdrop.  You’ve got to start somewhere!  I’m thinking about investing in a few yards of velvet for more portrait practice  but I can’t decide what color-blue, purple, or scarlett ?

This last one was just for fun. I love experimenting with the night-sky overlay.  She’s not really mad.  I told her to pretend her baby brother had just gone in her room and made a huge mess in her closet, and this was the face she gave me!  Wow! Now I know one way to get unusual and irregular expressions from kids!
