Candy Corn Queen 2012

It’s become an annual tradition.

It started in 2009, the year I started my blog.

I shared how much I love candy corn and I came up with several projects using the candy.  Again, in 2010, I came up with several different projects using candy corn,  one of which was a Candy Corn Queen adorned in a fantastical candy studded costume.

Last year, I decided another queen was in order and drew an elegant Elizabethan queen in a royally sweet gown.

This year I was inspired by an Egyptian ATC swap I did in late summer.  I shared some preliminary sketches on my FB page.  The final sketch combines three different painted papyrus images: the head was from one, the body from another, and the background design from a third.  I made up a lot of the hieroglyphics on my own, creating designs that would allow me to add lots of candy corn in.

I traced the design with black permanent pen onto tracing paper, working out some of the finer details.

White-out comes in handy to cover over mistakes so they can be re-drawn.

I love owls so I drew one perched on her arm…

She’s going to hold a bowl full of candy corn because queens need snacks, too.

Used my black Copic to color in some areas…

Made a copy onto card-stock before coloring so I have my original to play with…

Orange and yellow Copics for coloring…

I still love to color…

A candy corn throne…

So far so good…

Brayered on some ‘Tea-Dye’ Distress Ink to age it…

Brushed on some liquid White-Out to give it even more of an aged look, then brayered some more…

Finally done!

I appreciate you stopping by to see my art, have a great weekend!
