I planted my sunflowers about the same time I started this blog. In fact, one of my earliest posts was about how my daughter helped me plant them and saw the first sprouts after a rain shower. I remember looking forward to taking some photos of them when they opened. And now, the first of June is already here, right along with the blooming of the first Giant Sunflower. Here she goes!!!
THREE…
TWO…
ONE…
OPEN!!!
I don’t know much about gardening, but there must be several varieties of giant sunflowers because this is NOT the one I thought it was. The one I was expecting has a big black center and is much larger than this. I guess you can’t judge a flower by its seed packet? Oh, well. It’s still bright and cheery to look at from the living room and there are a whole host of others just a few days from opening!
Even without the black center, I think it looks neat! I love sunflowers…
You’re luckier than I, I guess. I planted mine the first week of april and they are just little green buds right now. And only about four feet tall. (Not enough sun, I think.)
Probably your centers will turn black as the seeds mature.
