I sketched 4 little birds in pencil, using a field guide for reference.
Then I cut them out using an arch shape stencil I had. I cut one out as a heart since the arch didn’t fit around it.
I decided to make the heart-shaped card first. Using my favorite watercolor pencils, I colored the bird in.
I continued to color the entire heart and blend it with my water pen until it looked soft and faded. I stamped a bit of paper with the word “love” and sewed it onto the front.
The bird was then mounted on a red scalloped heart with pleated papers glued around it.
I mounted it on cardboard and attached grommets at the top. Finally, I strung some ribbon through the grommets and added a couple of heart charms.
The other 3 bird Valentines are coming up!
