We saw some daffodils in the grocery store and my daughter thought they were so pretty. We decided to go home and paint some!
First we looked at some pictures of daffodils on the internet and practiced drawing the basic structure in our sketchpads.
Next, we gathered our supplies and headed out into the warm sunshine to paint! Yep, we painted right on the porch because we just sold our picnic table last week.
We used some nice, sturdy pieces of white cardboard and sketched our very best daffodils. My young artist did an especially good job of drawing the little bell-cups in the center, don’t you think?
Then we poured some pretty paint colors into our tray. We poured different shades together, mixing them as we went.
I kept this project fun, “loose” if you will: no intense concentration, color constraints, or expectations for the finished piece. We just talked, laughed, and dripped paint on ourselves 🙂 I gave a few hints about shading the flowers but that’s it.
I worked on mine (below) at the same time and instead of giving her lots of instructions, I let her look at mine and take some cues that way.
When she saw me use different blues and even some yellow for my sky, she would do the same thing…
Didn’t it turn out pretty? I love the bright colors and off center composition.
We saw a patch of bluebonnets on the drive to church so you can guess what she’s ready to paint next. 🙂
aw thats so cool!
what a great Mum to help really capture the daffodils, they came out brilliant peices of art, i’ll have to take your own advise!
Looks like you have another artist in the family!
YAY!!!!!!! I got to see the originals! 🙂
