Photography Practice

All the photography articles I’ve been reading lately have said late afternoon/sunset  is the best lighting for outdoor shots.  So I set out to take some pictures on one of the trails in our neighborhood right around 8 o’clock.  My daughter agreed to be the subject.  I envisioned a woodland musician, with long braided hair and a golden instrument surrounded by trees and vines.  If you’re wondering why all my shots are from the side or the back, that is in submission to my husband’s request that the kid’s faces not be on the blog.  Having limitations can be a great creativity booster, though, and my husband’s request has forced to me come up with new and intersting ways to do that.

One new thing I added to the mix this time was a ladder.  Now that was fun.  Heavy and burdensome it definitely was, but hauling the step-ladder out in the woods gave me some much needed elevation for some of the shots.

Needless to say,I am as excited as ever about my upcoming photography class!  Practice makes perfect but a little knowledge goes a long way too!

  1. I think the 5th one is my favorite. I also like the 3rd to last one. I’m super excited about the class as well! Less than two weeks away…. =)

thanks Alex! My fav. is the 6th one in sepia–I just wish I could’ve gotten my “woodland musician” to wear something besides jeans and a t-shirt!! :/
