I’ve been working on the vintage spool challenge for Somerset Life and I’ve got a few ideas coming along…. but IĀ keep getting distracted. Like today for instance.Ā I pulled out these costume jewelry bits and pieces and wound up taking pictures of them the entire time I had to work on stuff.
Yep. That’s all I did.
Put pretty stuff on spoon, take pictures of pretty stuff on spoon, edit pictures while listening to Gypsy Kings.
Not a bad evening, really.
I hope I’m not the only one that gets so easily distracted!

Sounds like something I would do! I love the contrast of the old spoon with the bright colors of the jewelry pieces. It is lovely! Maybe it will be your inspiration?
These are stunning photographs, Scarlett! I think you’re hitting your stride with that new camera. I see an intimate book with vintage photographs on the horizon.
Aaahh, YOU have Crow syndrome. I had this a few weeks ago. Shiny bits and facets of ideas struck and I was like a crow attracted to their gem like appeal. enJOY it, it is the artist eye with wings, taking us to unique views and altering our perception! These are gorgeous and reminds me of why flowers pop on a gray, rainy type day! xXx

It was time well spent, Scarlett. These are exquisite.
Wish you’d been here as I scrolled through these photos. You would have heard “Whoa!” and “Niiiiice” and “Whaou-aaaa!” Cause on the last one I tipped my coffee a bit.
These are soooo lovely. I love the muted colors and patinas. Was this an in-camera setting, or Photoshop, or did you add tones to black and whites? I love the way these photos feel, and the stories that seem to linger at the edges. To wit: Someone dug the last remaining artifacts from the ruins of Miss Havisham’s manor…a bit of jewelry…and a spoon…and now she has risen from the ashes to reclaim them.
You know, you make such beautiful art, sometimes I forget you’re a photographer. But when I see your photos, I never forget you’re an artist.

You are very kind, I am thrilled that you liked them because I am a huge admirer of your photography. Love each and every one I’ve seen.
The beauty was in these items themselves, really. All I did was tweak them a bit, doing just as you said, adding back in the colors to some different effects (b/w, a deep sepia, daguerreotype,etc…each one a little different.). I have PS CS5 but never use it because I’ve figured out how to emulate so many of the effects I like very quickly with online programs. Picnik is my favorite.
