Pioneer Farms

 Pioneer Farm-Austin,TX

We had a great time visiting Pioneer Farms yesterday.  Last week was only our first week back at “school” and I was already hankerin’ to get out of the house and see something new!  The folks out there have done a terrific job of setting up a little town and surrounding homesteads just like it would’ve looked in the 1800’s. Each cabin, house, and barn was filled with all sorts of furnishings, tools, and assorted utensils of that time to give you an accurate idea of what a true Texas pioneer home would’ve looked like.  Wonderful volunteers, donning period attire, attend each exhibit and are available to answer questions and bestow interesting facts and trivia on the passers by.

If you do plan to make a trip over there, I highly recommend printing out the scavenger hunt for kids from the web site.  Hunting for different items helped the kids in our group stay engaged and they were excited about finding all the items on the list.

Here are some of the photos I took while there.  All of the rooms in the larger houses were cordoned off, so I had to bend over at the waist and turn to the right or left to take a picture. It didn’t always work well, but here are a few pictures from our trip.
