The arrival of the first cold front of the season has put me in a pumpkiny mood!
Maybe pumpkiny is not a word just yet, but I think it should be. I will attempt some definitions: 1) an overall feeling of fondness toward any roundish vegetable of orange, yellow, green, or white coloring. 2) the desire to place such vegetables on surfaces throughout one’s domicile simply for their pleasing autumnal appearance. 3) having an intense desire to accumulate pumpkins of various sizes, while having no specific plan for their use whatsoever.
On our trip to Bryan/College Station over the weekend, we passed by a farmer’s market that I used to shop at called Farm Patch Market. There was a gigantic pumpkin near the street and I quickly called to the kids to look at it. My husband made the mistake of doubting my superb knowledge of giant squashes by remarking , “That’s not a real pumpkin.”
Me: Yes, it is.
Him: No way.
Me: Turn around.
Him: What?
Me: You heard me, sweet-heart. Turn around.
Kids: Yeah, yeah!! Let’s go back and see if it’s real!!!
Him: (making a U-turn and now regretting his initial comment)
You can probably guess how it turned out. Of course it was real, and I just happened to have my camera with me to prove it.
I took the opportunity to take some photos of all the wonderful varieties of pumpkins, gourds, and indian corn they had while we were there. Hope you enjoy them. Happy Fall!!!
Wow, is that a huge pumpkin or what? I mean, when I saw the first photo I got an idea of its hugeness (not a real word :), but when I saw J standing next to it ….. whoa! 😀
Love those gourds! I wish I could blow all of those pics up and just put them all over my house! I just love that I have another Fall Friend!!! Love the use of your word “autumnal.” That is one of my favorite words!
Me too! They had tons of white pumpkins there-too bad I didn’t make that trip a week earlier!
