Sea Turtle Mosaic with Grout and Resin

DSCF2723

This mosaic was inspired by a greeting card I found at the Austin Aquarium.

The whole design was too complex, so I decided to sketch one turtle on my base board.

This is my fourth mosaic, but it still takes me a while to cut glass. I waste a lot trying to get the right shapes.  It’s hard work!

Finally, I got the turtle cut, then I added some pieces of fused glass for sea plants.

I meticulously filled in the background with blue fritt, safetly glass, geodes, and beads.DSCF3008 DSCF3004 DSCF3113

I grouted the turtle with a dark gray grout, being careful that it didn’t ooze out from the turtle.DSCF3116

Then I poured Art Resin (the same resin I poured over my Monet Magnets)  into the areas surrounding the turtle, as evenly as I could.

This is the first time I’ve used a combination of grout and resin in the same mosaic.  I really like the look of the resin for the water.

  1. How beautiful!! Lovely to see what you took as your inspiration and turned it into your own art piece. The Art Resin looks incredible (not to mention, clean.. as water should be!). Love this Scarlett, you are talented!

  2. Hi Scarlett … so great that you’re trying out the mosaic work again … the result is so colourful and quite delightful to look at – as well as see how you building the art work up … congratulations – cheers Hilary
