I took some sunset photos recently as I was driving home from the grocery store.
And by the way, it’s probably not a great idea to be taking photos that temporarily BLIND YOU while you’re driving!
I was playing around with the idea of layering sunsets.
After some experimentation, I came up with this:
This will be my contribution to the “Perspectives” art exhibit at HCBC. Though I don’t attend this church, I have been privileged to be able to participate in their art exhibits.
Here’s how the wall sign will read:
“Slow Endings”
Photograph on Artist Board (12″x12″)
Three sunsets illustrate a perspective on terminal illnesses. Like setting suns, they are slow endings that cannot be stopped. Implied within the metaphor is the reality of sunrises, which, thankfully, are also unstoppable.
***Local people, come to the opening reception, coming up Sept. 30th. There are always wonderful and unique pieces to inspire you. Click on images to enlarge the exhibit invitation. Hope to see you there!

Hi Scarlett – I think yours are wonderful .. you really are incredibly creative .. but the dedication to the setting suns, with the realisation that rising suns don’t stop either .. I just love the thoughts you convey … brilliant – I’ll be thinking about these for a while … good luck with the exhibition – Hilary
Yea! I think I can go this time! I love your photo and especially what the sign will read. I hope we can go together again! Love you, Scarlett
What a great photo, Scarlett! I always love having you in our exhibits and this is no exception. Thanks for posting the invitation.
Scarlett, this is an absolutely beautiful picture. What a wonderful idea to layer the photos. The end result is stunning. Your photo title and description touch the heart. All the best. ~Sophia
@Hilary –I appreciate it so much, thank you for your kind words. I’m certainly ready to begin seeing some of the sunrises soon! So glad you liked the thoughts, as well.

@dee day –Thank you, Dee. I am always grateful to participate, it’s great to have a theme and a deadline to keep me productive. Plus, I LOVE seeing all of the artwork, yours included!!
@just4crafters –You are so kind!! I’m so glad you liked it, I’ve never entered a photograph in the exhibit before so I wasn’t sure about it at first.
Thanks again for stopping by!
We went to the exhibit a few years ago – HCBC is our “grandmother” church – we are part of their church-planting family and attend HCBC RR. So excited for you to exhibit. Beautiful pictures and beautiful meaning. Love your posts!
A lovely and thought provoking composite. Interesting how this one works on a lot of levels. Not the least of which is a trinity spun from one. As always, nicely done.
Wishing you an awesome opening reception! And since you’re having it on my birthday, I rather think I’m entitled to having that wish come true.
Wow! This exhibit sounds amazing and your contribution is incredibly thoughtful and engaging. Very unique and cool. Good luck – I know your piece will be well received! Great weekend to you too 😉 xoxo
Just stunning! This speaks to me on so many levels; I have a chronic illness with no cure. I have wondered how many sunrises and sunsets, I would see, endure. Beautiful sentiment that gives hope and beauty to a world full of cures~ I hope n’ pray this day will come! xXx I know you will be well received…please tell us how it goes~ Have a Wonderful time~
@Darin –Thanks so much for commenting, hope to see you at the exhibit!
@Joe –Ohhhh, I love your trinity thought, I didn’t even think about that. Thanks so much and I truly hope your upcoming birthday is the best one yet.
@kristin –I’m so grateful that you stopped by, thank you so much for your positive words on this layered photo. Hope you have a wonderful week as well.
@Ella –I thought of you several times while I was creating this, I’m so glad you like it. My prayers join yours for a day when our much sought after cures are found. Thanks so much!
