I wish people would stop staring.
I designed some cards to give to people who stare at Knox.
It’s happening more and more frequently. People can’t help themselves. Their eyes keep looking over at him. They don’t say anything but their eyes ask the questions loud and clear.
“What’s wrong with that baby? Is he OK? He doesn’t look quite right.”
Many can’t contain their curiosity and ask the DREADED QUESTION.
” How old is he?”
Here we go again.
And when I tell them they don’t believe me because he looks so small.
Then their eyes start asking questions again.
“Fine,” I say to myself. “I’ll tell this one person. I’ll go through it one more time.”
It’s a strange thing having people stare at your child. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to it.
But I am going to give all of those questioning eyes something to read from now on. I’m going to hand them a card.
It will answer all their questions, and hopefully, get them to stop staring.
I drew several different designs, trying to keep it simple. I figured something hand-drawn would catch people’s attention.
At first, I wanted to make them the size of an ATC, but I couldn’t fit all the words on it.
I kept re-tracing it and making changes until I liked it.
Here’s the finished design. I copied several onto cardstock and then added some bright colors with highlighter pens.
And I know a certain big sister who is ready and willing to hand them out.
Scarlett, do you know how powerful that would be…to give them a card? for them to connect a real, flesh and blood life with CS? This could be amazing. Motivated by powerful mother’s love. Beautiful!

What a great idea! Would you like me to recreate the image digitally for you? Then you could run them off on a printer any size you want, and color them in. Other Moms could then use them to hand out as well (if you want them to use your design). No strings attached.

If you scan it into your computer and save it in a jpeg format, then that would definitely work as well! Plus you could then resize it if you wanted to. These would work well in a business card format if the writing doesn’t turn out too small. I guess you’d have to play with it to see.
If it doesn’t turn out, let me know and I can do up a digital copy for you that you can then post on your blog. I give away free digital stamps on my blog -and this would be along the same lines; it would be a resizable png image.
@Carmen–ugh! I tried to resize to business card size and the writing was way too small, so I guess this particular image isn’t going to work in that size. Let me try a couple of other things, but if I can’t get it to work I will definitely be in touch–thanks again for your generous offer, I really really appreciate it. ~S
Resizing it to a business card was just a suggestion. You would have to scan it as is, then save it as a jpeg (it may save as a jpeg by default), then once you’ve saved it, you should be able to resize it in Word. If you post it on your blog as a jpeg, people should be able to save it and resize it in their Word (or other) program. Sorry, I wasn’t very clear initially! 🙂

Most people are heart-felt and when they look they are trying to understand what this is because they are not familiar with cockane. I love your idea of the card given with a thank you and a smile. Is so much more relaxing for you, your child and the onlooker. Education. “Stop Staring” is angry and off-putting. I’m glad you went the softer more caring route. Your loving nature shines brightly in your art.
