We’ve been learning about Monet this week.
Here are my two favorite children’s books on Monet:
Linnea in Monet’s Garden is my first pick. It’s the story of a little girl who travels to France and learns all about Monet’s life and work. Included are pictures of Monet’s most famous paintings, of course, along with some photographs of his family, home, and gardens.
My second favorite children’s primer on Monet is this one. It has several pages of Monet paintings that are full-page plates. Easy-to-read sections of text are paired with paintings that reflect specific times in his life.
I let my budding impressionist pick her paint colors and her brushes…
I made a copy of a water-lily painting and cut out a detail from it for her to use as a reference card.
I encouraged her to look hard at all of the colors Monet used to paint water. How many shades of blue did he use? Did he use only white to paint the lilies?
She picked great colors didn’t she?
Definitely frame-worthy!
What you are doing with your children is amazing! Your example of using your blog to really do something special with and for your kids is truly inspiring. Keep up the great work!…..and I agree…..it is “frame worthy”.
I love this; I will have to check this book out~ She did an incredible job; she has the eye 😀 Yes, so frame worth; I use to frame my children’s art work. Now art isn’t so big in school. I do try to get my daughter involved, when I can~ So glad you shared this~
She did an amazing job! I love her rendition. Monet is actually one of my favorite painters, and yes I know it’s so cliche to like impressionists, but… he was just amazing with his use of color and light. I’ll have to check out those books for N. as she gets a little older. I’ve already got a couple on Leonardo DaVinci too and we’re taking her to his machines’ exhibitions sometime this month. Isn’t it awesome sharing all these great people’s work with our little ones?
