Valentine Silhouette Card

What can you do with a decorative laminate sample card from your local home improvement store?

Make a Valentine!!

I’ve seen a lot of  silhouettes lately: pretty profiles of elegant ladies set onto all different types of paper projects.  I set out to alter this laminate sample into a lovely silhouette Valentine.

It’s not too early is it?

First, I sanded it and covered it with some pretty polka-dot paper and stamped it with one of my vintage postage stamps.

Then I matted a piece of Victorian ephemera I found in my stash o’ stuff and glued it on.  I used “postage stamp” decorative scissors around the edge.

Then came the silhouette.  Drawing a silhouette by hand is challenging.  You can easily wind up with something scary looking.  It took me a few tries to get one that looked decent.  I’m going to try to find some templates online before I attempt another silhouette project.

I layered my silhouette on some ovals, scalloped and punched, etc. , cut out a paper flower for her hair, and then added some baby blue sparkles. I used a tiny Stampin’ Up stamp that says “To My Valentine”  at the very bottom.

I found a scrap of burgundy velvet  ribbon, some faux pearls, and a glittered heart to add on as well.

Many thanks again to my talented friend Missy (who really should have her own blog) for giving me this piece of laminate to play with.

Nothing gets you in the mood to make Valentine’s more than making Valentine’s! More to come!

  1. Your Valentine is beautiful. I love it. I also love the fact that you showed how you had to modify it so it would stick to the frig.

Thanks for the inspiration. I think I’m going to get my craft supplies out and start making something.

    • Thanks so much for the encouragement 🙂
Guess what though–my husband (who works in internet marketing) saw the post and said “You shouldn’t show all those mistakes you made, you should just show the finished card”. So I deleted the magnet dilemma stuff! Haha! Oh well, I’m glad you got to see if before the changes! I appreciate your kind words so much and I like your site–lots of fun stuff!

  2. Beautiful Valentines!!!
    Have a blessed Sunday~~
Just back from a wonderful walk:)
