Turtle Girls

When I was a little girl, I used to go fishing with my dad and we would often see turtles in the lake. There were a few times I took them home as pets, but most of the time I just played with them in the water and said goodbye at the end of the day.  These designs were inspired by my memories of meeting tiny turtles in the lake.

Just like the Butterfly Carousel, I got my scissors and some pretty papers and started cutting.

This time I had the drawings (above) from my sketchbook to get me started.

So much of the texture and interest is in the paper itself.

I painted on a transparency to create a watery looking overlay.

I designed two more turtle girls this way.

I painted a matching wash of pink paint below her to give the impression that she is under the water…

I love creating unusual phrases from news print for cards.   Words you don’t expect; words that lead the imagination…

I got some note cards printed up from these designs for my shop for CS research.

Each set includes 6 cards,  2 of each design.  Please pass on the link to anyone you know that may like these Turtle Girl cards.  Thanks!

Have a great Thursday and thanks for stopping by!
