I love musicals! On Friday night, S. and I had the pleasure of going to see Annie! I was also anxious to finally get a look at the new Bass Concert Hall, with it’s $14.7 million dollar facelift completed.  What a difference! It seemed like a different theater.

No more cushy red carpet.  Outside and inside, the facility has a whole new feel.  It’s sleek and contemporary, just like the Long Center.  As soon as we entered it seemed as if the lobby had doubled in size.

The upper levels were full of art on loan from the Met.  Everywhere we looked there were sitting areas with comfortable couches and chairs.

There’s a cafe now, as well as a balcony you can go out on and watch the people coming into the theater below.  If you are a people watcher like me, you will really like the balcony area. And if your are a chocolate lover like me, you will be very sad to find out that they no longer sell M&M’s for the show.

I wanted to take  pictures of some of the art but there were no pictures allowed, of course.  I was even told to put my camera away before the show started.   Fortunately, I snapped this shot down in the orchestra pit before the camera police came over.  This was the first time I had seen a musical here that used a keyboard instead of a grand piano.  I honestly could not hear the difference.

The show was great! S. had never seen Annie before so the story was new for her.  Her sweet grandmother got her the t-shirt, Sandy the dog, and the CD. No hard-knock life for this kid 🙂

And if you stop by our house in the next couple of weeks, don’t be surprised if you hear someone singing, “When I’m havin’ a day that’s gray and loneleeeeeee, I just stick out my chin, and grin, and saaaaaaaay…The sun’ll come out, tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow..there’ll be sun,”
