“Beloved” Mosaic

I went to my second mosaic workshop last weekend, hosted by my talented friend,  Dee Day.

This time I arrived with a simple design in mind and my new glass cutting tools…

As soon as I began to cut the glass I realized the rainbow would be too hard (hey, I’m still a beginner!)

So I cut out a rain cloud for the top instead.

I also liked the idea of using narrow pieces of glass to look like pouring rain at the top…

I found this piece of fused glass with the word ” beloved” written on it and thought it would look sweet on the raincoat…

Many more pieces of blue glass cut for the rain…

The grout was made with two-thirds light gray mixed with a third of natural gray…

Tiny red beads were glued on around the fused piece to help it stand out…

Almost done!

Finally,  I glued on red crystals with E6000 and painted the frame with ‘antique black’ acrylic paint…

I enjoyed making this mosaic even more than my first one.  I’m hooked!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Great job!!! I love how the irid glas feels like sparkley rain. And, the red does indeed set off the wonderful fused glass “Beloved”.

    • @nola thacker –Hey friend! Loved seeing you in the store Wed….if you ever want to meet up at Hobby Lobby and ‘consult’ about new materials let me know! lol! Thanks so much and I can’t wait to see your piece finished! Have a blessed weekend!

  2. What child would not love to have their mom create a piece with them in mind? The piece is beautiful and has so much meaning. The idea of rain falling is so symbolic of God’s favor raining down on her. She is truly “beloved” by you and by God!

    • @deeday Thank you, Dee. I would never have been able to try this art form without your generosity. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your studio, sharing your glass, and sharing Louise! 🙂 I’m glad you like this and I appreciate everything you do for me and the PACT team so much!
      Love, Scarlett

Lovely. The red polka dots on the raincoat really pulled the red around the “beloved” together. Do wish you would identify the music that accompanies your blogs. So very relaxing. Very French.

    • @Susan Maquire –I appreciate it, Susan! The music playing right now is “Papa Georges Makes Movies’ by Howard Shore from the film ‘Hugo’. Thank you for coming by, I appreciate the feedback a ton! Have a great weekend!

  5. This is adorable Scarlett

  6. I love it!! Beautiful work, Scarlett! I can’t wait to see it in the gallery in real life! I also love it when you show your process for creating it; when I watch it in your blog with the music… it’s simply magical! ~sue

    • @Sue –Yay! I’m glad you like it! I was hoping to see you at the workshop..maybe next time? Will you let me know if you ever teach an oil class? That is one medium I love but have never been able to get a handle on and I love your work! Hope to see you soon, thanks so much for the kind words.

  7. It looks great, Scarlett! I’m glad to see you got Leponitts! Remember, mosaic is small pieces to make the whole. If you want to do a rainbow, just cut small pieces and put them together for the curve. As meticulous as you are, you will find your glass pieces get smaller and smaller. Grout can be overpainted with acrylic to change different parts of the whole. Don’t mix it into the grout because it interferes with the chemical process. Great job cutting and grinding your umbrella! Keep going, I can tell you are going to be good!

    • @Floy –Thanks Floy! Now about the umbrella ….I actually tried 3 times to cut that thing and broke it every time! I had to get Louise to help me! The curves were really hard to cut. I like the idea of painting the grout, I hadn’t thought of that! Thanks for the encouragement…looking at your work keeps me aiming higher. 🙂
