As a little girl, I remember making sequined balls with my mother each and every Christmas season .

She would set out a supply of different sized styrofoam balls, zillions of colorful sequins, and little gold pins on the living room table.

We would make them waiting for cookies to bake.  We would make them while we watched Christmas movies. And we would make them with company who came to visit.

After a ball was completely covered with sparkly sequins, we would pin a little loop of gold ribbon at the top for a hanger.

And then we gave them all away.

I sure do miss my mom, but it makes me happy to sit down with my kids and make sequined balls.  It keeps happy memories of my mom close to my heart.

  1. This is such a great idea! N. is still too little to make these with me, but I’ll try some of my own.

And I’m sorry about your mom, but it’s so nice that she lives on through traditions like these. It’s another way to connect your children to their grandmother as well.

  2. what an aweosmem idea I just happen to have some sequins and styrofoam balls! 😀

I might try this, thanks Scarlett!

  3. Treasured memories to pass on. What a lovely cherished tradition your Mom passed on to you~ She lives on in your memories and in your hands~
