Irony in Photos

Irony is the opposite of what you would expect.  It is the seemingly out of place element in a picture that draws you in to look closer.  Having never noticed this before, I’ve been perusing different photography web sites lately looking for irony.  It’s effective.

I was explaining this to my teenage apprentice recently and right after our discussion she snapped this photo which she titled “What’s in Dad’s Pocket?”  She had all the typical things that she knew would be in his pocket and then added something unexpected…mini Lightning McQueen.

I thought it demonstrated the use of irony well for a first try! Or as Yoda might say, “–hmmm, yes, understood it, she did.”
