Photos of my Prisms

I just found something very special to me.

Not long ago I wrote about my childhood fascination with prisms.  I had an extensive collection when I was a little girl.  Unfortunately, during the years 2004-2006, our family moved 6 times.  With all the hurried packing and unpacking I had watched as prism after prism became chipped, cracked, and broken beyond repair.

Fast forward to last week.  I have three old boxes that sit atop my armoire in my bedroom.  They are high up and rarely get dusted.  I recently saw small dust balls swaying in the breeze of my ceiling fan and decided it was  time to dust.  I took the boxes down and what do you know? In the smallest box a few of my favorite prisms from my childhood were wrapped in paper and still in tact! These prisms are 30 years old!

I have no memory of putting  prisms in this box.  It’s possible someone else packed them since we did have help packing on several occasions.  What a surprise!

Of course  I had to take some pictures of these special little pieces of crystal.  They bring back so many memories.

Before my photography classI had never moved my camera off of the Auto setting.

Never.

Now I’m experimenting daily with different settings to try and figure out how to take better pictures.   First I shot them with good old Auto, then each other setting in turn.  The ones taken with the P setting were by far the best.   The rich coloring of the red velvet and the deep shadows within the prisms are so pretty. I don’t fully understand all the technicalities of this setting but the photos taken on P sure are pretty! So that’s how this old dog is going to remember her new trick– P stands for Pretty Prism Pictures 🙂    Hey, it works for me.

The first one was taken on Auto, the rest were taken on the P setting. What a difference changing the setting made! I did not edit these at all.

  1. These prisms bring back sooooo many memories for me as well. I’m so glad that you still have some of your collection. Each time I see a prism I think of you and your window of prisms! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
