Photo of the Week- “NCFCA Regionals 2010–How to Carry an IO”

This is my oldest daughter.  She competes in the NCFCA (a national home school speech and debate organization) and is competing at the 2010 Regional Tournament this week.  I shot this photo of her this morning as we were trying to find our way to check-in.  One of her speeches this year is called an IO, or Illustrated Oratory, and it involves visual aid boards.  For competitions she lugs around her boards in the case you see on her shoulder.  She must schlep her easel, partially disassembled but still very awkward to carry, as best she can in her arms.  Additionally,  she carries her speech bag crammed with everything from house slippers to Odwala Superbar granola snacks.  Sometimes I worry that she doesn’t get enough exercise since she’s not in any team sports, but when I see her hauling this load across a university campus, I think she’s getting plenty.  😉

  1. At least M. isn’t going to have the residual effects of team sports. Megan suffers from back pain caused by carrying those quad drums and marching for miles. I could barely lift them. She can always take up bike riding or swimming too!

Awsome, what a young lady she has grown into.
