We took a break from art projects this week to do some indoor planting.
I saw this idea in a Lowe’s mailer and loved it, plus it looked like fun for little people.
I got soil, plants, gravel, and charcoal at Walmart.
I thought my son would enjoy helping me plant a little garden in this big jar.
First goes in the gravel and soil…
After a layer of activated charcoal (to prevent fungi) he planted the succulent plants in the jar. Then he added some more pebbles and some river rocks around the plants. I also found some small shells for him to add in.
I love seeing the layers through the glass.
We planted three more tiny plants in glass jelly jars.
The great thing about succulents is that they don’t need much water at all, sort of like cactus.
I save glass jars so my cabinets are stuffed with them. This is a sweet gift idea and a great way to recycle some of my jars.

Here on the home front, my sweetie Knox has been battling an infection in his left ear and is now on a 2nd antibiotic, plus my oldest daughter has a dislocated kneecap! She’s such a big help to me around here, so it’s been a strain to try and do without her. And guess whose throat is starting to have a swollen scratchy feeling? Yep, that would be me. We always seem to be bombarded with ailments this time of year!

My thoughts are with you all .. sounds like a ‘right’ mix of ailments and I bet you’re missing your daughter’s abilities .. how on earth did she manage to dislocate her knee …

@Hilary –Thanks so much for the well wishes…It’s really the strangest thing with my daughter. She played tennis in the morning and then went to get up out of a chair later that day, heard a pop in her knee, and collapsed to the floor. She started physical therapy so hopefully that will get it back into place! And Knox is feeling better today, thanks again Hilary, appreciate your kind words and comments very much! Great project for the kids and, as you said, sweet gift idea! I hate throwing jars away too. Sorry Knox is still dealing with his ear problem/infection and your daughter a dislocated kneecap. I’m not sure how one dislocates a kneecap or how it is treated, but it sounds very uncomfortable. Hope you and your kids start feeling better soon.

Feel better! Jack did a great job! A long paint brush will help remove dirt from the top of the rosettes. Water just enough to settle the roots too. These will be fun to watch grow!
