The Art of Running –The Color Rad 5K

We had an unusually colorful Saturday! The Color Rad came to Austin, TX!

I injured my ankle last week and was unable to run, but I had plenty of chances to snap pictures and cheer on ‘Team Knox’.

There were already hundreds of people at the site when we arrived Saturday morning.

Participants show up in white shirts…

Other than that, anything goes…

Some people just can’t wait for the run to start…

Runners line up at the start.  About 7 thousand people showed up to run so they started in waves of a few hundred every 7 minutes or so.

It’s fun to watch all the teams running in tutus…

Some run and some walk, but all will get pelted with color bombs along the way…

Watch out for these folks! They’re the ones ready to pelt you with colored cornstarch as you run by…

The finish is a virtual storm of color.  If you didn’t get RAD during the run, you will now…

It’s the most colorful fun I’ve ever seen…

The Color Me Rad run was a blast!  Check it out if you like running for a great cause.

I hope you’re having a terrific holiday season so far. I’m afraid this is not going to be my most productive Christmas.  My sweet Knox has been ill for over a week and now has double ear infections again.  Hopefully he’ll be feeling much better in the next couple of days.  You can always see my photos, art projects with children,  and original drawings over at my FB page.  Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Oh my goodness!!! that looks like so much fun. Thanks for sharing all your pics. Some of them could be in an article in a magazine, the photos are that good. Everyone looked like they had a ball and were so proud of their colors. Sorry to hear Knox isn’t feeling well, give that little one a big hug for me. Take care.

This is so darling. This is done in India during one of their celebrations, so pretty. My only wonder is, what is the powder? Breathing powder is not such a good idea. Sorry to be a worry-wart.

    • @Susan –Thanks so much, Susan! The powder is colored cornstarch. I understand your concerns..I actually saw several people wearing bandanas or some type of cloth over their face at the finish, but most didn’t’ seem bothered. I’d like to see some pics of the Indian celebration, too! Thanks again for your comment.
