Why I Put My Name On My Photos

For the record, I’m not a photographer.

I love taking pictures, but it’s  just a hobby.

Some people may wonder why I put my name on my pictures.

“Who does she think she is, a photographer or something?”

When I took a photography class at the community college summer before last, the professor said, “It’s not a matter of if your images will be stolen, it’s only a matter of when.”

He went on to encourage us to put our name, a copyright, or something on our photos.  He explained, “It won’t stop someone if they’re determined, but it will discourage most people from taking your images.”

So that’s why I put my name on there. Not because I think my pictures are better than anyone else’s and certainly not because I consider myself a professional.

Now my Uncle Duane, who’s been a commercial photographer in Austin,TX  for 25 years, shoots with a Hasselblad, and has his own studio….he’s a professional.

As for me, I just got my first SLR for Valentine’s Day!

The learning curve is steep, but it’s a lot of fun.  There are so many images in my head and I know I can make them a reality with my new equipment.

Hope you’re having a great week!

  1. I need to start doing this; I fear this will happen. I know I’m not great, but I take decent, unusual pics~

    • @Alex-Thanks, it’s about time right? haha! It’s a EOS Rebel T2i-they are fixing to release the T3i next month but the only difference was in the video capability so the older version was fine with me. Now I just gotta get through the manual! 🙂

  5. Yep. I know I should do this, but I never do… But my photos aren’t nearly as good as yours so no one will want to steal them anyway. 🙂
